EfE themes: infrastructure (water supply and sanitation)

The EAP Task Force work program "water supply and sanitation sector reform" focuses on EECCA countries and contributes to implementing the Environmental Strategy of EECCA Countries, which was adopted at the 2003 Kiev Environment for Europe Ministerial Conference.

The new WSS work program of the EAP Task Force is contained in the consolidated Programme of Work and Budget for 2008 endorsed in February 2008.

A Group of Senior Officials on Urban Water Sector Reform in EECCA was established in 2001 to facilitate the implementation of the EAP Task Force WSS work program. This network includes water sector officials from EECCA, OECD and Central and Eastern European countries, international financing institutions (IFIs), private sector representatives and NGOs. The Group promotes political support to urban water sector reform and guides the work aimed at implementing the "Almaty Guiding Principles for Reform of the Urban Water Supply and Sanitation Sector in EECCA", which are focused on achieving the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) on water supply and sanitation.

In implementing the WSS work program, the EAP Task Force cooperates with related other work programs, including in particular the EU Water Initiative - EECCA Component and the World Bank.
